How we work

Vocemundi reports on events that affect people in more than one country. Our newsroom is assisted by artificial intelligence, and every step of the process is designed to keep facts, sources and opinion clearly apart. This page explains exactly how a story reaches you.

1. Finding the story

Every few hours we read the news feeds of more than twenty outlets from different regions and editorial traditions: public broadcasters, commercial media, state-run agencies from several countries, multilateral bodies and scientific publishers. Stories reported by several outlets are grouped together. When two outlets simply republish the same wire copy, we count them as one origin, not two.

An AI editor then classifies each story by section, global impact and sensitivity. Purely local news, celebrity gossip and routine match reports are left out.

2. Writing it

The AI editor first extracts the facts from the source material and sorts them into what is confirmed (two or more independent origins), what is reported (one source), what is disputed, and what each party says. The article is written only from that list of facts. Anything the sources do not say, we do not say.

Each article ends with a short, clearly labelled Analysis section with possible implications. It never takes sides.

3. Three independent reviewers

Before publication, every article is broken down into individual claims and checked by three AI models from different companies and countries: Claude (Anthropic, United States), GPT (OpenAI, United States) and Kimi (Moonshot AI, China). Each model carries the biases of its own environment; excluding one because of where it comes from would reproduce the very bias we want to avoid.

• Each reviewer must quote the passage of the source material that supports or contradicts each claim. Software then checks that the quote really exists in the sources. A reviewer cannot approve a claim with invented evidence.
• Verifiable errors are not voted on: they are corrected, and the article goes back to review.
• An article is approved only with zero errors and at least 90% of its claims supported by a majority of reviewers.
• Disagreement between reviewers is recorded, and we regularly analyse the votes by topic and by source to detect systematic bias in any reviewer.

4. Who decides what is published

Publication rules are fixed in advance and applied by software, not by mood:

• Stories on science, climate, economy, technology and culture may be published automatically if they have at least three sources, two independent origins and two different perspectives, and the reviewers approved them.
• Stories on armed conflicts, elections, health and disasters wait for explicit editorial approval.
• Any story whose core is an accusation against a named person or organisation is never published without explicit editorial approval.
• Stories held for lack of sources are not thrown away: we keep watching them and, if more outlets confirm them, they are rewritten with the new sources and reviewed again.

5. Traceability

At the foot of every article you will find its traceability record: the sources used, with links; the number of independent origins; the perspectives covered; how many claims are confirmed, reported or disputed; and the result of the review.

6. Images

We use real photographs with free licences (mainly from Wikimedia Commons), credited with author and licence and never altered. An AI checks each image visually before it is used, and rejects it if it is only loosely related to the story. When no suitable photograph exists, we publish without one or use an image clearly labelled Illustration. We do not recreate news scenes as if they were photographs.

7. Virtual correspondents

Some of our sections may be signed by virtual correspondents: named AI writers with an illustrated avatar. They do not have invented human biographies and never claim to have been anywhere.

8. Corrections

If we get something wrong, we correct it visibly, with a dated note. We never delete errors silently. Write to [email protected].

9. Advertising

Advertising is always labelled and never placed inside an article. Advertisers have no influence on our coverage.

Every article carries the line "Produced by the Vocemundi newsroom with AI assistance."
