Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has announced a six-month interim administration for Tigray, with the stated aim of preparing for elections, after federal forces pushed back a TPLF-led offensive that began in September.
Residents quoted by AFP say Ethiopian federal forces and an allied militia entered Adwa, about 40 km from the Eritrean border, after Tigray People's Liberation Front fighters left the town.
A local journalist and residents told AFP that TPLF fighters and leaders were leaving Tigray's capital on 3 October, a claim Al Jazeera said it could not independently confirm.
